In Unger (Lungero) of Calabria, on February 20th, 1897 was convened the Second Arbëresh Congress of the Albanian language. At this rally, except the arbëresh researchers of Italy also participated the representatives of the Albanians residing in Romania and Austria, as well as friends of Albania from different countries. In Congress was decided to request by the Italian government to open a branch of the Albanian language in Naples Oriental Institute; to be officially recognized the Albanian language for the arberesh and to support the work of Albanian patriots for the spread of education and national culture in Albania, co-operating with the activists of Albania and with the Albanian colonies in Romania, Egypt, etc.
