In hungry Shkodra, on August 8, 1854, the revolt of bread broke out against wheat speculators and Ottoman invaders. Revolt was led by Osman Alia. Hundreds of gunmen and armed soldiers broke out the storehouses of the landlords and scattered them to the hungry city of the highland. The revolt calmed down with the intervention of the French consul in Shkodra, while the Sultan was forced to replace valiu. But then, the young man with many strengths centered in the city undertook reprisals, many were arrested and interned. The leaders of the revolt could only escape by fleeing from Albania.
