On July 13, 1880, one of the toughest battles of Albanian freedom fighters took place, under the leadership of Hodo Sokoli, for the protection of Hoti and Gruda, the ethnic Albanian troops that the Berlin Congress arbitrarily granted to Montenegro. As a result of the Albanian resistance, the Montenegrin armies gave up their occupation.
