On March 31st, 1991, were held the first democratic elections for the National Assembly. From 250 deputies that had at the time the Assembly, 67 of them represented the opposition and were members of the Democratic Party. A year later, on March 31st, 1992, were held untimely elections, and won the Democratic Party. From the 140 deputies of the National Assembly, 92 were part of the Democratic Party list, 7 from the Social Democratic Party, 2 from the Party for the Protection of Human Rights and 1 deputy was part of the Republican Party.
