On 30 May 1990, the Republic of Albania joined the Barcelona Convention “On the Protection of the Mediterranean from Pollution”. Following the Convention, the Protocols “On Specially Protected Areas” (1992) and “On the Protection of Biodiversity in the Mediterranean” (1996) were also signed.
