The Permanent Council of the Islamic Community, gathered in Tirana on March 3rd, 1937, paved the way for removal of the veil and green burqa, which was a step for the emancipation of Albanian women. In the decision of the Council, it was said that “it is religiously permissible to show the face and hands of a Muslim woman and her participation in every street of human activity.”
