Naum Veqilharxhi
The Albanian nation, today is celebrated the anniversary of intellectual the prominent and activist of Albanian school, Naum Veqilharxhi. He was born in Vithkuq, Korca on December 6th, 1767. He exiled with his family in Kishinjov in Moldova and participated in anti-Ottoman uprising for the liberation of Romania. As a representative and fighter of our National Renaissance, at the “Encyclical Letter”, formulated the cultural requirements of our national movement, published the first Albanian primer and formulated an original variant of the Albanian alphabet. Naum Veqilharxhi was the first martyr of Albanian education and culture; he died poisoned by agents of the Constantinople Patriarchy.
