The composer of the Renaissance Martin Gjoka, died on February 3rd, 1940. He was born in Tivar in 1890, but he grew up and established the ancient city of Teuta. In Shkodra he worked as a teacher and musician. He was a passionate collector of songs and folk melodies of the north, and used them as a basis for his own creations and for the formation of his unique style. The colors of this ancient treasure that inherited the nation are maintaining by the compositions “the Albanian Rhapsody,” “A purple of Shkodra”, “Two flowers on the grave of Skanderbeg”. At the same time he was the organizer of musical events. He established and directed the spiritual orchestra “Illyrikum”.
