The folklorist, professor, writer, one of the founders of children’s literature, Zihni Sako was born in Gjirokastra, on February 16th, 1912. He has worked as a teacher in Korca and in some villages of Gjirokastra. He was the president of the Committee of Culture, chief editor of the magazine “Our literature,” director of the sector in the Institute of Science and Pedagogical Institute, has established the Institute of Folklore and the Archive of Folk Culture, was elected leader of the Committee of Folkloric Studies for the Southeast Europe at UNESCO. For merits in the field of folklore studies he has received twice the price of the Republic and the high title of “Nation Teacher”.
