The professor Qazim Turdiu, a scholar and pedagogue of mathematical sciences, was born on 16 June 1917. He graduated from Mathematics and Physics at Montpellier University in France. After returning to the Homeland, he taught at Tirana Gymnasium and then to Shkodra. He was among the first pedagogues of the 2-year Pedagogical Institute, which opened after the liberation and transformation of the 4-year High Pedagogical Institute, lectured and directed the mathematics departments in both higher education institutions. Professor Turdiu was among the first lecturers of the University of Tirana, head of mathematics department at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and mathematics lecturer in engineering faculties. Out of his pen they came out, over 30 textbooks, methodologies and scientific papers, without mentioning numerous articles and papers. He is among the first to be certified by the Albanian Government with the degree “Candidate of Science”, “Docent” and in 1970 he was awarded the title “Professor” and “Teacher of the People”. After 1981, the honored scientist is subjected to personal and family persecution. He died in Tirana, after being released from his internment in 1989.
