Today is commemorated the translator and contributor of the Albanian language, the prominent professor and doctor, Vangjel Meksi. He was graduated in medicine in Napoli of Italy and he served as a doctor of Ali Pash Tepelena. Then, he practiced his profession in Greece and Turkey, but he became famous with his translations and writings. The first works albanianized by him are: “Doke të izraelitëve” and “Doke të të krishterëve”. But his greatest work is the translation of “Dhjata e re”, which was published after his death under the auspicesof Grigor Gjirokastriti. Another grammar and some literary studies in the Albanian language belong to his pen, with which he was became the ancestor of the renaissance in this field. Vangjel Meksi died on November 12th, 1823.
