Today is commemorated the murder of Haxhi Zeka, leader of the National Movement, organizer and leader of the anti-Ottoman uprising in Kosovo. Was killed in Peja on February 18th, 1902 by a Serbian agent, but the newspaper “Drita” that was published by our expatriates in Sofia, announcing his loss emphasizes that “Turkey has a hand in this murder”. The killing of the Albanian patriot gave new impulses to the Albanian National Movement. The French diplomats in Çetina announced Paris that the murder of Haji Zeka brought in “a serious awakening of Albanian nationality” and as a result can “incidents that may require the intervention of European diplomacy”.
