On the streets of the city of Shkodra, on 19 May 1835, a bloody battle took place among the guerrilla-guided citizens, assisted by 3,000 armed highlanders and Turkish regular wards. The war continued 33 hours on the road, and from home to home. The Ottomans could not cope with the fury of the insurgents and were forced to retreat, and shut down at the fortress of Rozafa.
