In early 1835, the Ottoman invaders began cleansing the administrative apparatus from Albanian employees and raising customs duties. Disputed by the Shkodra, on May 18, 1835, broke out in the uprising. With them, the highlands of Mbishkolla, the Mirdite and the Ulqinites joined together. Fighting continued during the summer. On July 15, 1835, Shkodra’s brother suffered a serious defeat. After this victory, the uprising spread throughout the country’s north. This forced the High Gate to send many forces, armed to the teeth. On September 1, near Lezha, the insurgents broke down and were forced to retreat.
