On April 4th, 2009 the Republic of Albania became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, or as it is called briefly NATO. The biggest military and political organization of our day was established on April 4th, 1945 with the Alliance Treaty, signed in Washington. Initially has grouped Belgium, Canada, Denmark, United States, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands and Portugal. NATO has created a highly branched organism, composed by more than 200 different military, political and technical councils, of commissions, committees and expert groups. Its main organs are the session of the NATO Council and the Defence Planning Committee.
