In a simple family from Kruja, on March 2nd, 1931, was born Ramiz Kovaçi, prominent lyric-dramatic singer, famous baritone of our scene and foreign, “crown of baritones roles,” as he was known by the musical criticism. He followed the higher studies for canto at the Conservatory of Sofia and was a student of the world-famous singer Brumberov. He did the specialization in Milan of Italy. He began his artistic career in 1959 at the Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana, where he performed over 30 main roles in the Albanian and foreign operas. His brilliant voice also, was applauded in the scenes of Italy, Bulgaria, the Soviet Union, Romania, Hungary, Turkey, China, Greece, etc. Ramiz Kovaçi as a lecturer has prepared generations of singers. He taught over 20 years at the Lyceum “Jordan Misja” and in the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, he was invited to teach in the conservatory of Istanbul, where he died in 1994.
