In the difficult condition that was Albania, Prime Minister of that time, Bashkim Fino, held an intensive diplomatic activity. In Gjirokastra, on April 1st, 1997, he met and held talks with the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and in the same day, with the invitation of Costas Simitis, he went to Athens and held talks with senior politicians of the neighboring country.
