The Albanian exiles in Sofia on January 1st, 1884, created the patriotic society “Dëshira”. It spread its branches in all Bulgarian cities, where Albanian colony had developed a wide activity to preserve the Albanian language, culture and traditions. The association founded the printing house “Mbrothësia”, published several books and “Kalendari kombiar” opened Albanian schools and organized theatrical performances and other artistic activity and cultural events.
