On January 30th, 1880, died Zef Jubani, well-known activist and ideologist of the National Renaissance. He was born in Shkodra in 1818. He did the secondary commercial studies in Malta. In 1862 he organized the anti Ottoman movement Mirdita. Zef Jubani is one of the first collectors and researchers of our ancient and original folklore. In 1871, he published the volume Përmbledhje këngësh popullore dhe rapsodi poemash shqiptare” where are included also his studies as: “Aktualiteti i popullit të Shqipërisë së Veriut”, “Kundromë mbi gjendjen morale dhe mbi kulturën intelektuale të popullit shqiptar”. To his pen belongs also work “Projekt lundrimi me avullnore italiane në Adriatik, Tregëtia e Venedikut me Shqipërinë”. But in the manuscript has left “Historia e jetës dhe e veprave të Gjergj Kastriotit”. He is known as the creator of the alphabet with the Latin letters, author of a Grammar of Albanian language, and a fighter for an Albanian literary language, for a national and secular school.
