The great writer, Dritëro Agolli died on February 3rd, 2017 at aged 85. He was born in Menkulas Devoll. After receiving his first lessons in his hometown, he continued the high school in Gjirokastra. He finished the high studies for Literature in Petersburg. He has worked for a long time as journalist of the daily newspaper “Zeri i popullit”, and for many years he was the Chairman of the Union of Writers and Artists of Albania. For thirty years Dritëro Agolli was elected deputy. Dritëro Agolli was part of the Albanian literature since at the beginning (years ’60) as its protagonist, changing the dimension of the future. In his work, Agolli saw himself as the farmer and shepherd protagonist, the farmer, the student and mountaineer. Agolli became the poet of land and love, the writer of philosophy and human pain. The literary works of Dritëro Agolli created the new tradition of the literature. It makes us feel dignified in front of the world.
