In February 1859, in the journey through the places of birth, the French painter Leon Jerome, one of the greatest masters of the nineteenth century, drew Albania. During his journey in our country, he had several tableaus. One of them is the composition “Shqiptarët duke luajtur shah”, worked in oil. It is recognized as one of his best works and the most successful theme. The work implies that the painter knew very well Albanians in those years and the history of Albania. The works with Albanian subject, of this great painter, are saved in galleries in New York.
