Archive reveals: De Rota manuscripts purchased 3 million liret

A “bill of lading” with protocol number 18, led by the Institute of Sciences, the section of history, informs us of a list of “materials” that in the last calculation goes over 3 million lire. It is about the archive of Jeronim De Rada published for the first time by the General Directorate of the Archives. It is an original document indicating that the purchase was made in 1952 and contains the materials listed in the document: De Rada’s literary works, suitcases, cash registers, tickets, Cosenza-Rome train, hammocks, and the latest signature . It seems that most of the work belongs to the manuscript work of the poet, and the price of 3 million liras was paid by the Albanian government in ’52. According to the archive’s announcement, this fund kept under the name “Jeronim De Rada” is available to serve in the AQC study hall. Jeronim De Reda was born in 1814 in Maki, Calabria. He first taught at St. Anthony’s Coronation’s St. Adrian College. In 1834 he went to study justice in Naples, where he actively participated in the political and cultural movement of the time. In 1848 he published the Albanian newspaper L’Albanese d’Italia, in which he expressed his views on the events of the time. After the failure of the revolution in 1848 closed the paper and disappointed withdrew in his native village until the early 60’s of the nineteenth century. XIX. Starting from v. 1861, in the life of De Rada began a new phase when he appeared as one of the most prominent figures of our National Renaissance. After the treatise The Principles of Aesthetics (Principles of Aesthetics, 1861) published the Work of the Albanian Nation (“Antichità della nazione albanese”, 1864) and Rhapsody of an Arbëresh poet (Rapsodie d’un poema albanese, 1866) An important role for the propagation of the Albanian national issue. Entered in correspondence with the Albanian patriots and with the European cultural personalities, the kindness of Albania, attended the events of interest in Albania. In 1878 he supported the Albanian League of Prizren and raised his voice against Albania’s earthly mutilation. A valuable contribution to the national affair gave the magazine “Flag of Arbr”, which was published in 1883-1885. In the “Political Testament” (1902) he expressed optimism in the future of Albania and his dissatisfaction with Italy’s imperialist policy towards the homeland of the forefathers.
