The Albanian humanist, historian and professor Marin Biçikemi, nicknamed “Shkodrani”, was born in 1468. After the conquest of Shkodra by the Ottomans he moved in Ulinj and then in Brescia, Italy. For his knowledge’s, invited by Ragusa, served as a rector at the “literary school” for four years. He continued his pedagogical career in Brescia and then, in the Albanian School of Venice. During the years, 1519-1526, he gave lectures at the University of Padova, in Italy. He left a lot of works and numerous textbooks in Latin. The rich cultural heritage of Biçikemi represents him as a great character of European Renaissance.
