In the ancient city of Shkodra, on March 24th, 1895, was born the professor, journalist and translator Karl Gurakuqi, one of the first Albanian diplomats of the University of Graz. In 1917, he returned to his homeland and taught in Shkodra. In 1920, he moved to Vlora as education inspector where together with Avni Rustemi directed the federation “Atdheu”. He has published numerous articles and studies, as “Agimi”, “Telegraf, “Ora”, “Revista Pedagogjike”, “Përpjekja shqiptare”, “Illyria, etc. He has directed important organs of the press, as the journal “Agimi”, “Revistën Pedagogjike”, “Mësuesi”, “Shkolla kombëtare”, etc. He has left some textbooks as “Libër leximi” for high schools, “Gramatika latine”, “and Ushtrimet e gramatikës latine “,” Sintaksa latine”. He has translated the works of the albanologist Karl Patç “Ilirët” and “Gjëndja ekonomike dhe kulturore e Shqipnisë në kohën e kalueme”.
