On March 30th, 1908, in Gjirokastra, was opened the Albanian school “Liria”. The first teacher and director was Thoma Papapano (Cici) “Teacher of the nation.” Since the first days Mesonjetorja had numerous difficulties, was lacked the economic base, finances, texts and other furniture. The new school was assisted by the club “Dituria” and the people of the city. Also was helped by the migrants from Gjirokastra for maintaining the school. The school itself gave its contribution to the revival of the cultural life of the city. The school “Liria”, was officially recognized by the Ottomans, only on March 16th, 1911.
