On 29 May 1453, Sultan Mehmed II conquered Constantinople and made it the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The collapse of Constantinople increased fear and panic in Europe. Gjergj Kastrioti, tried to use the state created to provide military and financial aid for coping with Ottoman fury. He sent delegates to Naples, Rome, Venice and Ragusa. But more promises were made. Only Ragusa was activated to create a coalition between Albanians, Hungarians and Serbs against the Ottoman threat.
