Today is commemorated the linguist and diplomat Gjergj Pekemezi. He was born in 1872 in Tushemisht of Pogradeci. He did the elementary school in his hometown and was graduated at the University of Vienna in philosophy and linguistics. For about ten years he taught the Albanian language in the diplomatic Institute of Vienna. By working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria, he did the collection of documents for the history of Albania. He is the co-author of the book ” Bibliografia shqiptare ” published in 1909.He wrote and published several textbooks for learning and reading the Albanian language. His major work, ” Gramatika e gjuhës shqipe ” was published in 1908 in the German language. It was used for a long time as a main Albanian language text inside and outside Albania. He died on February 24th, 1938.
