In the summer of 1716, Turkish commander Xhanum Hoxha, who had started attacking Corfu on June 24, undertook a punitive expedition against rebellious himariots. At the head of a 300,000-strong army, he attacked Drimadh, where a bloody battle took place. The Turkish strategist suffered huge losses and the remains of his army, so he went to Corfu.
