The insurgents, after invading Tirana and Shijak, on May 23rd, 1914, carried out a furious attack on Durrës, where the government of Vilhelm Vidit had its headquarters. They entered to the suburbs of the city. To help the government forces, abducted weapons went to war, many volunteer patriots. After bloody fighting, they turned the rebels back into the hills of Rapsbull. But this did not ease the critical state of the government, because the fire of the uprising spread to other parts of the country.
