In Pogradec, on April 17th, 1916, was established the society “body gymnastics,” that held patriotic, political, social and cultural activities. It aimed the preparation of a new generation capable to defend the freedom, the independence and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. Ait organized physical exercises, simple gymnastic events that were accompanied by patriotic songs. Later, the society gave its contribution to the fight against illiteracy, the opening of new schools in villages and teaching there, in the establishment of the first theatrical troupe in Pogradec and preparation of the first performances.
