On April 17th, 1537, Sultan Suleiman, in the next expedition against Albania sent Ajaz Pasha to suppress the insurgents of Himara. The order was that the Turkish Pasha had to undertake such an extermination massacre against Himara. But as has written the historiography of the time, the opposite happened. “.. these fighter men, writes the chronicler, by attacking the enemies killed more than eight thousand Turks with little damage to their lives and forced the others to retreat … not being satisfied for what they had done, concludes the chronicler, Himara decided to attack the Turks in their field, and they were able to kill Suleiman, inside his tent even among the guards”.
