On May 13th, 1842, was born Ali Mehmet Vrioni, a patriot and prominent personality of our National Renaissance. It was one of the participants of the parish of South Albania, gathered in 1877, where Albania’s fortunes were discussed and a memorandum was sent to the Turkish government. In these meetings, he became acquainted with Abdyl Frashër. Two years later, in April and June 1879, Ali Mehmet Vrioni and Abdyl Frasheri took a tour of the capitals of the five Great Powers, demanding European diplomacy, to end the claims made to the chauvinists and the Greek leaders, to the detriment of Albania and the right solution to the Albanian national problem. In October of that year, he attended the Albanian conference, which was summoned to Istanbul, from which came out “Shoqëria e të shtypurit shkronja shqipe” “or “Shoqëria e shkronjëzave” or” Shoqëria e Stambollit “, chaired by Sami Frashëri. Later, he was also elected to the “Central Committee for the Protection of Albanian Nationality”. In all these organs, Ali Mehmet Vrioni has had an important role in awakening Albanian national conscience and mobilizing them in war for the liberation of the homeland until he closed his eyes in 1893.
