Today is commemorated the outstanding activity of the national and democratic movement, “The Teacher of the Nation”, Jani Minga. After graduating from Athens, he began teaching in Greek schools, teaching the students secretly in Albanian. He was the initiator of the opening of the first Albanian school and Laberia club in Vlora in 1908. Two years later, he opened in Kanina, the Albanian school and in November 1912 he was a delegate at the Vlora Assembly. For patriotic activity, he was interned by the Italians in 1920. In the 1920s, he fought for a secular national school for a society and a democratic state. He has left some textbooks of great value to time. Jani Minga, disagreed with King Zog regime, opposed the fascist and Nazi invasion and was persecuted with his family. His two sons found death in Nazi concentration camps. He died on May 7th, 1947.
