The first Albanian school in Berat was opened on the initiative of Jorgji Karbunara, or otherwise known as Bab Dud Karbunara. He created the opportunity to send students to the Normal School of Drita, Bucharest, for the teaching of Albanian. Sulo Resuli, Llambi Goxhomani, Gaqo Vokopola, etc. also collaborated on the opening of the Albanian school in the ancient city. Their help for this purpose was provided by the Albanian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Egyptian exiles. Thus, on 4 August 1908, two Albanian schools with first teachers, Jorgji Karbunarna and Sulo Resulin were immediately opened in Berat.
