On December 28th, 1976, the National Assembly adopted a new Constitution, which declared the Albanian state as a dictatorship of the proletariat, the social property as the only property, as the basis of socialism and prohibited the private property. This constitution was in force until 1991, when the Parliament approved a package of basic laws, replacing the constitution until November 1998, when it was adopted the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, which is in force till today.
